Electric Mojo Records

September 2010

Congrats to our own Behind The Wagon, blowing up as they are. Their latest album “11 Songs By Behind The Wagon” has been nominated for several San Diego Music Awards for 2010, including Best Americana, Best Americana Album, and the highly coveted Worst Album Title award. The festivititties ensue September 12. Remember boys, it ain’t about whether you win or lose, it’s about how much you drink…. Never ones to rest on their laurels, Behind The Wagon will be headed in to Electric Mojo to record their follow up record, due for release later this year. Stay tuned….

China Clippers are hard at play on their next album. An EP is in the works to whet the appetites, with a single “Mikki Said Goodbye” slated for release in the very near future. As in verrrry near….

Hands Down South will also be releasing an EP in the Fall. With a revamped lineup and a bunch of new material, they decided to get back into the studio and put some more tunes in the can before they go all full album on everybody.

FREE SHIT! That’s right, true to our nature, the audio pirates have been out and about, scourging the town and bootlegging shows all over San Diego. They were starting to pile up, so we put them all on a page where you can go and download them. Free! Think I’m lyin? www.electricmojorecords.com/bootlegs

OK, good news and bad news. The bad news is that the last few months have seen the imminent demise of two of our favorite local bands. Trophy Wife and Nautical Disaster have decided to call it a day. The good news is, members are already crossbreeding and spawning projects that will lift them to new heights. Keep an eye out in the future for works and shows by Pony Death Ride and the Heartbeat Trail. We’ll miss ya, welcome back….

February 2010

Hound dogs of the world unite. Resident good ol’ boy Jonny Wagon will be howlin’ at the Radio Room Feb. 5, opening for the Dirty Old One Man Band Scott H. Biram. If that don’t drive you to drink, get a friend to drive…. Check out Shows

The Buddy Blue tribute album “Goldmine: The Songs Of Buddy Blue” is now available in its entirety for download on the Elmorex website….

Hell on Heels. Woof! Owoooga! Let’s see, where the hell do I start? OK, Feb. 13 at Brick By Brick, chicks, music, dancing, singing, pasties, booze, burlesque, ribald humor, scantily clad dames shimmyin’ and shakin’ , garters and raunchy shenanigans, tawdry tarts and devilish dervishes driving boys into a titillating tizzy of tassel twirling teasers and bustiered betties. Got a problem with that? Didn’t think so.  Got something better to do?  Didn't think so….

Schmaltz rocks the Beauty Bar on the 10th with fellow oddballs Fractophone, and the artsy fartsy Death By Volcano. Their bootleg single “Intrigue Generator” was tops in the download derby for the month of January so I guess they think they’re all hot shit now, but where’s the record, mang? Where’s the freakin’ record?! They want it, make it!.... Check out shows

Speaking of records, Black Sheep Reunion has started work on their debut disc, a 13 song to do that’s so country you’ll quit your job, drive a truck and jam a six pack in yer eye. Should be done and out by this Summer….

Speaking of out, the new Trophy Wife video for “Move To The Desert” is out and about and makin’ the route. If you missed the festivititties at Bar Pink sucks for you, but before you beat yourself up about it (and you will) check out the vid on YouTube. Brilliantly shot over what must have been eight grueling years by local video guru and comic book mavenite Jeromy Cox, it’s got all the things that true greatness demands; break dancing cows, rocker mummies, car driving cavemen, the ironic symbolism of man's anxiety over the foreshadowing of his own impending doom, and cleavage. Singer Joe Macaskill comes off like a smoldering bastion of murder and intrigue, oozing sexuality from pores other men have only dreamed of possessing. The devastation this masterpiece will wreak upon the world of fine art will be felt by all for years to come…. Trophy Wife Video on YouTube

Speaking of wreaking, the Elmorex San Diego Rock and fuckin’ Roll archives have moved into the 90’s with the veritable vim and vigor of voracious vulgarity, and more free stuff. If you know what Cargo, Headhunter and Goldenrod meant to this town you’ll want to check it out for sure. If you don’t know, check it out twice. Elmorex 90’s archive
*While we feel we covered the basic essence of the 90’s with this page, the fact of the matter is we really only scraped the surface. The truth is some of these groups just frickin’ vanished and their members and music are impossible to come by. If you noticed there is a band that is not on the page that you think should be, email us and let us know. We got done with this page and right away decided there should be a page two to really cover it, so if there is something you want to see, throw in your two cents. Hell, throw in a nickel cheapskate, we work for you, remember? Make a l’il noise…. Elmorex email

Speaking of noise, the Elmorex propaganda machine will be shifting up a gear in the coming months by taking advantage of this new fangled space age tomfoolery called the podcast. We are currently in the process of gathering fresh and not so fresh talent for this and anyone who wants to get involved is more than welcome. We will be rockin the Electric Mojo artists and any local stuff we believe in and want to help get out there, past, present and future. If you want to drive your own playlist, make requests, be a guest DJ, do interviews, get interviewed, or a hundred other things we haven’t even thought of yet, drop us a line. Have an idea, put your stamp on it. It’s an open slate so anything goes, as long as it’s entertaining. In the field, on the horse, off the rack or in the shack, you order it, we’ll pour it…. The latest Jimmy Dean band is taking shape right quick now. The official name of the band is the Black Sheep Reunion. They’ll be playing their first ever show at the Radio Room Thursday December 3rd and will be going into the studio this month to lay down tracks for what is sure to be a rip snortin, low falutin’, moonshinin’ hillbilly hullabaloo. More fun than shootin’ monkeys in a barrel, hotter’n two squirrels screwin’ in a wool sock, put down the shotgun and grab the shot glass….

Well, it’s been about 3 months since the last Nautical Disaster record came out, and you know what that means. It means the next Nautical Disaster record is in the can and ready for release. The CD release party for “Amantes Amentes” will be at Bar Pink December 20th. If that ain’t enough for ya, Behind The Wagon is also playing, and Ladyfingers from Philadephia PA will be kickin’ off the night....

Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the Elmorex compilation “Turn That Noise Up! Vol. 1” is finally out. Available via download at the moment, with CD’s to be out soon, featuring singles from Behind The Wagon, Nautical Disaster, Trophy Wife, The Bugs, Jimmy Dean, and more, “Turn That Noise Up! Vol. 1” can now be officially tagged “The Greatest Compilation Ever In The History Of Mankind.” At least until Volume 2 comes out…. http://electricmojorecords.com/compilation

The first installment of the SD RNR historical archive is up. Covering the history of music in San Diego, chapter one delves into the 70’s and 80’s. Lots of free downloads here as well, so if you’re into the Beat Farmers, Penetrators, Crawdaddys, or Gravedigger V, this is the place to get it. If you don’t know who these bands are, or understand their historical relevance, or think they have nothing to do with what goes on in this town today, you should be the first one clicking here: http://electricmojorecords.com/70s80s

That’s it for now, but as you know there’s always some action brewing so stay tuned. Best thoughts and wishes to Joe from Trophy Wife, and much appreciation to all who help make this circus go round….

October 2009

“11 Songs By Behind The Wagon” will officially be released on CD and for download at www.electricmojorecords.com/behindthewagon -- look for it Oct. 30th….

Elmorex has just released the first album by Nautical Disaster, a sweet l’il gem titled “7s”. Recorded in 2007, it is classic ND, with all the hard driving drunken debauchery you would expect. Best song: Scapegoat. Hot single: Gifted. Sentimental fave: Love Letters….

Rumors are swirling about a new video from Trophy Wife, however the group remains tight lipped about what the song is or what will be on the video. While pressing Joel for details I was given a severe spanking by the TW bikini Secret Service, so we will all have to wait together with our collective asses on ice. Hey Joel, why you gotta be like that? Next time just say “no comment”. I’ma push the brass to send you guys on tour alright. To frickin Antarctica. Pack a parka motherfucker!....

Electric Mojo Records is happy to announce a new member of the fam. If you haven’t heard Schmaltz yet, they are defiantly worth checkin’ out. Part Zappa, part Zorn, part Foghorn Leghorn. Part Crimson, part Cage, Elmorex front page. Featuring members of classic SD groups like Creedle and Daddylonglegs (if you don’t know, look it up), Schmaltz is in the basement working on a new record, but our bootleg spies were able to pilfer some tapes from the dumpster behind their studio, and we of course have posted them in highly illegal fashion for you the listeners to indulge in some sweet sonic sex and aural orgasms. Go ahead lawbreakers, you know how we do it. Electricmojorecords.com/schmaltz ….

In other Elmorex news, a project is in under way to create an archive of San Diego based Rock and Roll, covering all of the relevant bands that have come out of this town in the last 30-35 years. If you think this is a small undertaking, you obviously just moved here from whatever shitty weather town you came from, and think you’re gonna come up in here and show us how it’s done. Well guess what yokels/pasty rappers/watered down punks/fill-in-the-blankcore jive ass mofos, we already do it and we BEEN doin it for a while now so take a #, siddown and shut the fuck up. While you’re waiting, Google the Penetrators, Beat Farmers, Crawdaddys, Fluf, Inch, Tanner, Fishwife, Earthless, Night Marchers, Styletones, and then tell me nothing great ever came out of SD. Yeah, that’s what I thought….

Well Awright Awright Awright! Not only do we now have a release date of November 15 for the first installation of the Elmorex compilation series "Turn That Noise Up!" but we are also in the middle of upgrading the system to make our catalog available to all comers via instant download. New Behind The Wagon in early October, and some bootlegs from the archives for those of you who dig that old out of print never released and maybe never even been heard before kinda sound. It's all happenin now and people keep askin' me when and I keep sayin' 2 weeks, so if you're about to ask....2 weeks!

July 2009

So, in relevant San Diego Rock and Roll music news fashion, Volume 1 of the Electric Mojo Records compilation series “Turn That Noise Up!” is in the can and will be ready for release in a matter of weeks. Featuring tunes from Behind The Wagon, Screamin Yeehaws, Trophy Wife, Nautical Disaster, Living Deadbeats, and Wince. We’ll keep you posted….
Speaking of in the can, the new Behind The Wagon record is also just that and rumor has it that it is smokin! Part Johnny Cash, part Sam Cooke, part Social D, you wanna keep an eye on these guys cuz they are the real fuckin deal. You heard it here first.
Nautical Disaster’s new record “ReAnimator” is set for release on July 15. CD Release Party at the Ruby Room. I got a sneak peek and its classic Nautical. Pure, hard driving, dark and Rock and Roll thru & thru. Bigger and raunchier than a John Holmes Dirty Sanchez….
If you even halfway pay attention to San Diego music, then you sure as hell should know who the Beat Farmers were, and if you were ever a musician struggling to get by, you almost certainly at one point or another ran into a guy named Buddy Blue. I’m not gonna tell the story here, if you don’t know, look it up. The guy is a freakin legend. Anywho, his untimely bucket kicking in 2006 was a real buzzkill. To help take the edge off, fans and friends got together and released a tribute to the man. “Goldmine: The Songs of Buddy Blue” is now available at the Electric Mojo Records Store. Proceeds go to the edumacation of his daughter Lulu, so pony up cheapskates! What, you got somethin against kids?
See ya next time ….
